Meet Heidi
Hi, I’m Heidi.
My first job was at a greenhouse. I loved the smell of it the minute I walked in, and I loved watching things grow. Years later I opened my own greenhouse here at Broad Meadow Farm.
Before the greenhouse, I refinished and painted old furniture and taught chalk painting classes. I loved creating. I didn’t realize how much I missed that feeling until last summer, standing at my plant table, when it hit me that my heart wasn’t in it anymore. I needed to make things again.
Soap gave me that back.
I actually made soap in my late teens, out of a book that was hopelessly out of date. Then came college, marriage, and babies, and it got set aside. Years later I was recovering from a bad reaction to sunscreen, and I wanted to make something simple and natural for my own skin. I found a newer book by another soap maker and tried one of her recipes. The bar came out so pretty I wanted to make another one. And another. I haven’t really stopped.
I closed the greenhouse this past June. I’ll be honest: I felt a little guilty about disappointing my plant customers, and a little excited. Mostly, I felt relief.
Where the soap happens
It started in my kitchen. I got tired of hauling everything back and forth, so my laundry room is now the laundry/soap room. It’s tight, but it works for now. When I make a batch, the whole house smells like it. (I sometimes wonder if it’s too much for people coming over.)
My favourite part is pouring the soap and making the textured tops. Then comes cutting the loaf and seeing how it turned out. I still get a little nervous every time that it won’t mix right. Not every batch makes it. One came out looking like ground pork. It’s shredded and waiting to become something else someday.
A normal day
I drive a school bus, so I’m out the door by 7:13. Soap gets made between my morning and afternoon runs. People tell me I’m a busy lady, but I don’t feel busy. I’ve been cutting out the things that don’t add value to my life and keeping the ones that do. This one does.
What I hope for you
I hope you think it’s pretty. I hope it smells good, makes your hands feel good, and that you enjoy using it. My favourite thing at a market is when someone comes back and tells me, “I love how this feels.”

Our handmade soaps are crafted in small batches right here on the farm using traditional cold-process methods. We use natural oils, farm-grown botanicals whenever possible, and essential oils to create gentle, nourishing bars.
Our soaps are not vegan because they contain tallow, an animal-derived ingredient. They are made with nourishing natural oils and butters, including coconut oil, olive oil, tallow, shea butter, avocado oil, and castor oil. We do not use synthetic fragrances, parabens, or harsh chemicals, and use natural colorants and essential oils.
Our soaps are formulated to be gentle and moisturizing, making them suitable for most skin types including sensitive skin. However, we recommend checking the ingredient list if you have specific allergies.
Store your soap in a dry, well-ventilated area between uses. Use a soap dish with drainage to help your bar last longer. Keep it away from direct water spray in the shower.
Our handmade soaps have a shelf life of approximately 12 months or longer when stored properly in a cool, dry place. The scent may fade over time, but the soap remains effective and safe to use.
