From Laundry Baskets to Garden Beds: Why I Garden
Share
If you’d asked my mom when I was a kid whether I’d grow up to be a gardener, she would have laughed and said, “No way!”
She still tells the story of how, when I was little, she’d set me outside in a laundry basket on the grass so she could garden. She knew I wouldn’t climb out — not because I was obedient, but because I didn’t like getting dirty.
And yet… here we are.
Fast forward many years, and my very first full-time job was in a greenhouse. It was different than anything I’d known. Being surrounded by warm air, the smell of soil, the rhythm of planting — something shifted. I didn’t just tolerate the dirt. I loved it.
It wasn’t just about the plants. It was about the process.
Over time, gardening became more than a job — it became a way of reconnecting. With the seasons. With simplicity. With the joy of watching something grow.
And now, even as my business evolves from full-time growing into small-batch soap making, the garden is still with me. It’s in the ingredients I use, the pace I keep, and the peace I try to offer through everything I make.
I may not have seen this path coming, but I’m so grateful it found me.
From blooms to bars — created with love, and a little dirt under my nails.
